I’ve learned in my brief time here that Sacramento has an abundance of writing talent, and it has been my pleasure to teach private workshops and showcase emerging local writers via Stories on Stage. Now I want the wider writing world to know just how strong a writing community we have here! On June 11-12, C. Michael Curtis, Fiction Editor of the Atlantic Monthly, will be in town for the first “Master Teachers” workshop, via the graces of local writer Zoe Keithley. This workshop is currently filled, although plans are in the works for a public talk on editing and publishing.
Our next Master Teacher Workshop will take place on the weekend of October 1-2, and features writer Kevin (Mc) McIlvoy, author of the novels A Waltz, The Fifth Station, Little Peg, and Hyssop, and the story collection The Complete History of New Mexico. I refer to Mc as the manuscript whisperer, for his ability to both guide and inspire writers. Mc currently teaches in the Low Residency MFA program at Warren Wilson and is a regular faculty member at the Breadloaf Writers Conference. He has a devoted following as an editor and teacher of writing, and a particular interest in working with mature developing writers. The workshop will be capped at 12 students. The cost is $400.
