C. Michael Curtis has been the Fiction Editor of the Atlantic Monthly since 1963. He has edited the work of Tobias Wolff, Joyce Carol Oates, John Updike, Richard Ford, and many other writing luminaries.

Mr. Curtis will give a publishing talk which is open to the public on Sunday, June 12th at 6PM. The cover charge is $5. The Sacramento Poetry Center is located in Midtown Sacramento at 1719 25th Street (@R).

Mr. Curtis will be in town to facilitate a weekend workshop with some of the strongest fiction writers in the area. The workshop was organized by writers Valerie Fioravanti, founder of the Stories on Stage reading series, and Zoe Keithley, of Story Workshop® Sacramento. Participants in the workshop include Renee Thompson, author of the novel The Bridge at Valentine, Tomales Bay Fiction Fellowship recipient Katie McCleary, Adam Russ, Assistant Editor at Davis-based Blue Moon Literary & Art Review, and SoS featured emerging writers Sue Staats & Gina Mulligan.

This workshop is the first in a quarterly series of “Master Teacher” weekend workshops curated by Valerie Fioravanti, who believes the greater Sacramento area is rich with developing and emerging writers hungry for local learning opportunities. The next workshop will take place October 1-2, and  features writer Kevin (Mc) McIlvoy, author of the novels A Waltz, The Fifth Station, Little Peg, and Hyssop, and the story collection The Complete History of New Mexico. Mc currently teaches in the Low Residency MFA program at Warren Wilson and is a regular faculty member at the Breadloaf Writers Conference.
